Meet the growers

It’s thanks to the hard work and dedication of growers across the country that we’re able to celebrate British tomato season with so many delicious varieties each year.

Meet some of the growers working to keep shops and shelves well-stocked.

Eduard Udyanskyy is in charge of tomato growing at Glinwell. He’s been at our family-run farm since 2004, where he oversees the production of more than 9,500 tonnes of toms each year.

Based in Hertfordshire, we grow 15 varieties of tomatoes, from Piccolo to Marzanino and baby plum. Each variety varies in shape, texture and use, but our finely honed growing techniques ensure that all are absolutely delicious.

We sell and grow our produce in Britain, which is key to unlocking the incomparable taste of our toms. It allows us to keep them on the vine for longer, absorbing extra flavour and nutrients. It also means we can cut the time between picking and your plate, reducing food miles and ensuring your tomatoes are incredibly fresh and juicy when you get them.

We believe in working with nature rather than against it. Huge windows in our greenhouses let in plenty of natural light and air, creating perfect conditions for our tomatoes. These state-of-the-art greenhouses are also home to hives of resident bees, who busily help us pollinate our tomato plants.

Instead of pesticides, we rely on the considerable talents of our tomato-obsessed team to help us navigate the challenges of growing. From varying conditions to unpredictable weather, our 450-strong crew ensures we’re able to deliver consistently delicious crops in the most ecological way possible.

Just as nature intended, our tomatoes aren’t always completely uniform in size and shape. So, for the toms that don’t make the supermarket shelves we’ve found alternative homes, including supporting a food redistribution charity and creating our own gourmet sauces.

Ensuring no edible produce goes to waste is really important to us, because, wonky or not, all our toms are terrifically tasty!
