Tomato Growers turn back the clock at the Southport Flower Show - 23/08/2009

20 – 23 August 2009

To celebrate the famous Southport Flower Show's 80th year, the organisers this year took the show back to the very beginning, the 1920s. Always keen to accept the challenge, Flavourfresh Salads created a 1920's shop full of fresh, delicious and colourful tomatoes and all grown at their nurseries near Southport.

The magnificent display earned the innovative Flavourfresh team a Large Gold Medal, the highest award presented at the show. Visitors were also encouraged to taste tomatoes grown by the Flavourfresh team and as one of them put it, 'I wasn't maybe expecting it, but they really do taste as good as they look!'

Mick Fradsham, Managing Director of Flavourfresh Salads said: "We are delighted to have won the Large Gold award, it's the first time in 13 years of trying that we have managed it. After the Gold medal for our display at the RHS Tatton Park show last month, it's the crowning glory. It's also a great way to play our part in promoting the British tomato industry in the north of England".

Julie Woolley of the British Tomato Growers' Association said "In spite of, or maybe because of the recession, the programme of shows attended by TGA members this year has been a resounding success. The public love to try British tomatoes and at almost every show we have sold out of fruit by the end of each day. The creative displays produced by the teams at Flavourfresh Salads and our other members create a huge amount of interest and prove you can buy great tasting tomatoes in this country – just as long as they are grown in this country".
